Abbott was formed by brothers David and Steven Prince in the small coal mining village of Huthwaite, Nottinghamshire in August 1982. Abbott remains a family run business and with the next generation of the Prince family already working for the company, we hope to continue for a long time to come.
During our 40 year history we have extended into new areas, beginning in the Midlands and Yorkshire before opening a branch in London in 1999. In 2002 we were described by TimeOut magazine as one of their essential trusted contacts and later worked extensively with Which? Magazine to highlight some of the bad practice in the damp proofing industry. We have continued to promote high standards of surveying and workmanship, contributing to a number of television programmes and magazine articles.
In 2009, we formed an innovation company to allow us to design and develop our own range of solutions for damp control including Ultrovent and the now patented Ultrotherm internal insulation system which was voted Professional Builder Magazine’s Product of the year in 2014. Design and development has allowed us to form new relationships with various organisations including The University of Nottingham and Waltham Forest Green Homes.
